The Simple Future: Regular Verbs (hablaré, comeré, viviré)
Spanish: El Futuro Simple: Verbos Regulares (hablaré, comeré, viviré)
Level: B1 Intermediate
Category: verbs
Explanation
The simple future is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future. In Spanish, forming the simple future of regular verbs is very easy: we simply add the future endings to the complete infinitive of the verb. This means we do NOT remove the -ar, -er, or -ir endings as we do in other tenses. The future endings are the same for all three verb types (-ar, -er, -ir): -é, -ás, -á, -emos, -éis, -án. For example, from the verb "hablar" we get hablaré, hablarás, hablará, hablaremos, hablaréis, hablarán. Notice that every form has a written accent except the "nosotros" form (hablaremos). We use the simple future to express predictions (Mañana lloverá - It will rain tomorrow), promises (Te llamaré esta noche - I will call you tonight), spontaneous decisions, and future plans. It is also used to express probability or supposition about the present (¿Qué hora será? - I wonder what time it is). An important feature is that, because the endings are added to the full infinitive, all regular verbs follow exactly the same pattern regardless of whether they end in -ar, -er, or -ir. This makes the simple future one of the easiest tenses to learn for regular verbs.
